Easter Carrot-shaped Appetizers Made with Puff Pastry

Spring's Asparagus Tart with Cheese and Parma Ham 7

This is an easy and fun recipe using foil to shape the puff pastry into cute carrot-shaped appetizers, perfect for Easter. Click here to view my Festive Easter Lunch menu.

Your children could even help you with shaping the foil and making the filling.

The recipe is perfect for the hostess as the carrot-shaped puff pastry cones as well as the filling could be made ahead of time.

The Filling

About the filling, here are some ideas…

  • Chicken salad – I like to start with Rotisserie Chicken. Diced the chicken breast, mix with a good mayonnaise (I love the Japanese mayo Kewpie available in Asian store or you could order it here, a dollop of mustard, diced celery, candied walnut and dry cranberries, salt & pepper to taste
  • Tuna salad – Use canned tuna, drained of any oil, mix with a good mayo (like Kewpie), diced celery or cucumber, diced apples, dill, dash of lemon juice, salt & pepper to taste
  • Egg salad – Cubed hard-boiled eggs, good mayo, a dollop of mustard, diced sweet pickles, diced fresh tomatoes (drained), salt & pepper to taste.

You could also prepare these carrot-shaped puff pastry cones and fill them with pastry cream mixed with strawberries or blueberries, for a delicious dessert!

100% Kona Coffee

After baking the carrot-shaped puff pastry cones, let them cool completely before filling. These cones could be stored in an air-tight container for 2 days. The filling could also be made the day before and refrigerated.

The Carrot-Shaped Cones

Use 1 sheet of puff pastry, if possible in rectangular shape.

Lay it over a flat surface. With a pizza cutter, cut pastry stripes, about 3/4 ” / 2 cm width.

Tear 8 to 10 pieces of foil and shape them into cones.

Wrap the puff pastry around the foil cones, and lay the cones in a foil or parchment paper lined baking tray.

Brush with the beaten egg.

Pre-heat oven to 425 F / 220 C

Bake for around 25 minutes (here my oven temperature is not even so some cones are darker than others but they are still delicious and crispy)

Let the Puff Pastry Cones cool before filling

Let cool completely before filling. Garnish each filled cone with a sprig of parsley to complete the “carrot” look!
