Wine Tourism Chile – Matetic Vineyard

Today we explore the shores of Casablanca, about 100 km from Santiago, Chile, on the way to Matetic vineyard for our wine tour.

Matetic, a boutique biodynamic winery

Located in the Rosario Valley, situated between the coastal valleys of Casablanca and San Antonio, Matetic vineyards were planted in 1999, and are one of the pioneers of cool-climate Syrah production in Chile.

The Wine Tour starts with a Wine Tasting and Lunch. This is followed by a Wine Tour to learn about Matetic’s focus on organic farming and biodynamic wine making, while appreciating stunning views of the vineyards and the San Antonio Valley.This vineyard is well known for its distinguished Syrah, and boasts the best vanguard winemaking technologies available. The Winery, a state-of-the-art facility, was designed by the Matetic team in cooperation with architect Lawrence Odfjell. After the tour, we enjoy wine tasting of three Ultra-Premium wines from the EQ line, accompanied by bread and organic olive oil.

Matetic vineyards are located on the central coast of Chile, between the Pacific Ocean and the slopes of the Coastal Mountains. Biological–dynamic agriculture promotes the biodiversity of the flora and fauna, protecting the health of the agriculturists and the consumers. The agricultural field is conceived as an individual, with the earth, plants, animals, cosmos, and men coming together to form one organism.

The Wine Cellar

This room has been designed to reach the optimum conditions to store and age the wines. All the elements including the temperature, humidity and light, have been carefully studied to create a perfect condition. The constant contact of must and French oak gives the refined aromas  of grand wines.

The Wines

• EQ is short for equilibrium, which Matetic’s concept of harmony between the soil, the climate and the vines. The varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
• Corralillo represents the century-old wine cellar and winery in Rosario Valley. The varieties are Chardonnay and a red blend.
