Hanoi offers many interesting sites to visit which I’ll cover in another post.
Let’s talk about Hanoi’s favorite place to have a drink and bite to eat…
Train Street
In Hanoi old quarter, the “Train street” located at Ngõ 224 Lê Duẩn, in the “Flower” district (Hang Bong) is a quaint narrow lane marked by railroad tracks.
Twice a day, the train connecting Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in the South goes by this lane, with barely a few inches clearance on each side at some points. With a brief warning, bikes are pulled aside, and children are ushered indoors. The street’s residents briefly duck inside doorways and then go about their normal day after the train passes.
The railroad tracks take up nearly the entirety of the “Train street,” and this is now a popular tourists site. Due to a recent accident, tourists are no longer allowed to walk along the train tracks, so we settled down in a cafe and enjoy drinks and appetizers. The retro atmosphere is so charming…
Bun Cha Hanoi
Hanoi is my mother’s birth place so I grew up enjoying many North Vietnamese dishes and my favorite is Bun Cha or Grilled Meat Hanoi style. The best and most authentic Bun Cha is usually served in street food stalls in Hanoi, not in luxury restaurants. Bun Cha has also become a favorite Vietnamese dish of President Obama, having been introduced to it by Chef Anthony Bourdain, in an episode of his Parts Unknown series.
So in the evening we decide to have Bun Cha at a nearby casual stall called Bun Cha #1 at 2-12 Hang Manh Hang Gai, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi 100000 Vietnam.
This place has 2 specialties: Cha Gio (Spring Rolls) and Bun Cha
If you wish to make Bun Cha at home, please check my recipe…
Have you been to Hanoi? What is your favorite dish?
Even if you have never been to Vietnam, making Bun Cha at home will take you there in spirit…
